Church School

Trinity Church provides a comprehensive Christian education program for children 3 through High School.   Please contact the church office at (860) 527-8133 for details of the program appropriate for your child.

The Nursery

Nursery care is provided in our lovely nursery (located in the hallway off Goodwin Hall) for newborns through 3 year olds. Children can play with toys, take a nap, or play with others in a safe and supervised setting. The Nursery is open each Sunday for the 10:00 a.m.  service, and during Church school and the adult symposium.  The nursery closes at 12:30pm.  Silent pagers are available for you to take into church so that nursery staff can reach you if necessary.

Care for Young Children

Activity Time is offered for children ages 3 through 8 during the first part of the later Sunday service during the program year, and for the 9:00 a.m. service in the summer months.  Children in Activity Time rejoin their families in church during the passing of the Peace.  Planned activities often relate to seasonal events.

Acolytes

Young people age 9 through 18 are eligible to become acolytes. Acolytes assist with the celebration of Holy Eucharist each Sunday and on special days such as Easter and Christmas. The acolyte is an important part of worship and helps to provide a special beauty to the service. For further information, contact the Rev. Horace Johnson at the church office

Trinity Chorister Program

The Trinity Choristers were founded in September 2000 and are now considered to be one of the leading new chorister programs in the Northeast.  The choristers, all aged 6-15, .sing alongside the adult Trinity Choir at the later Sunday service throughout the program year (September-June).   Rehearsals take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Members of the Trinity Chorister Program come from throughout the Greater Hartford region, with some traveling significant distances to be part of this exceptional program.  Choristers learn not only singing and general musical skills but also the valuable place of high quality music and musical performance in a sacred setting and in their own lives.  The choristers also develop a strong collegial sense of team spirit in a non-competitive environment, which often leads to long-lasting friendships.

The repertoire the choristers sing includes works from the sixteenth century to the present day, and centers on music written with young voices in mind.  During the course of the year, the choristers sing works of composers such as Bach, Britten, Byrd, Mozart, Palestrina, Stanford and Vaughan Williams, to name a few.

In addition to their service schedule at the church, the choristers also have the opportunity to attend summer programs of the Royal School of Church Music in America (RSCM) and participate in regional and national choir festivals.

During the summer of 2004, the choristers sang for the principal liturgies on Connecticut Day (August 8) at the National Cathedral in Washington DC; in the summer of 2006, they toured the UK to celebrate their sixth year, singing services at Bristol and St. Alban's Cathedral and a concert in Salisbury Cathedral.

Admission to the Trinity Chorister Program is by audition and open to all children aged 6-13.  Auditions take place throughout the year. Those interested in auditioning should contact the Interim Director of Music, Bert Landman, in the parish office at (860) 527-8133 ext. 205 or via e-mail at blandman@trinityhartford.com

Trinity's Light and Peace program meets on Monday evenings during the school year.  The children from the Asylum Hill neighborhood who attend the program receive a warm welcome from their volunteer hosts, as well as a nutritious, hot meal.  But the most important gift they receive is the opportunity to worship and learn about God in a child-friendly environment.  For more information contact Emily Given, Program Director of Light and Peace, at (860) 527-8133, ext. 207 or by e-mail at lightandpeace@trinityhartford.org.  See Mission & Outreach
