Worship AssistantsACOLYTES are those who assist the clergy during worship by carrying the processional cross and candles and serving at the altar. All persons ten and older are invited to participate in this ministry; training sessions are available. The ALTAR GUILD prepares the altar and church for liturgical services and cares for the vestments, altar vessels, and hangings. LAY EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS are persons licensed by the Bishop to administer the chalice during services of the Holy Eucharist. Persons interested in being chalicists should speak to the Rector. Training is provided. Annual licenses are granted by the Diocese; persons so licensed are also authorized to distribute the bread of Communion when necessary, such as when one of the clergy is away on vacation. The TRINITY CHOIR, an ensemble of adult men and women, performs at the 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist on Sunday, at Evensongs, and for all major feast days. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and at 9:15 a.m. on Sundays. The choir season runs from September to June. New members are warmly welcomed! See Music & Arts for more info. The FLOWER COMMITTEE is responsible for arranging the flowers in the church. Its members also distribute flowers to the sick and shut-ins of the parish. Both men and women are invited to help with this ministry. Contributions for the Sunday altar FLOWERS, as well as for the CANDLE which burns constantly in the Chapel, may be made in memory of deceased family members or friends or as an offering of thanksgiving. Memorial contributions can also be made for the special Christmas and Easter flowers and music; further information and contribution forms are published at appropriate times in The Voice. GREETERS welcome people as they arrive to worship and attempt to identify newcomers and answer any immediate questions. After the service, greeters offer brochures to newcomers, encourage them to sign the guest book, provide information and enthusiasm about Trinity and its programs, accompany newcomers to the coffee hour, and introduce them to other parishioners. Greeters are trained to offer assistance to visitors and to answer questions about the Episcopal Church, the liturgy, and parish resources and activities. One of Trinity's licensed LAY READERS offers a service of Morning Prayer with homily each Sunday at 10:00 a.m. for the patients and staff of the Caleb Hitchcock nursing section at Duncaster, a Bloomfield retirement community. LAY EUCHARISTIC VISITORS are licensed by the Diocese to distribute Holy Communion to shut-ins. LECTORS and INTERCESSORS read the Scripture lessons and intercessory prayers for the Sunday services. Training workshops are held periodically for anyone interested in assisting at public worship in this way. The MUSIC COMMITTEE meets regularly to assist with the planning and support of special arts events, including the concert series at Trinity church, with fund raising, publicity, and general coordination of events. See Music & Arts for more info. USHERS greet worshipers, distribute leaflets, collect the offerings, and respond to needs that arise during times of worship. Ushers also play an important role in welcoming visitors. The WORSHIP COMMITTEE reviews Trinity's worship practices and considers ideas for the future. Their goal is to broaden the worship experience at Trinity. Trinity's CHORISTER program, for children ages six to thirteen, serves an important role within the life of the parish, where there is a strong commitment to making quality music. The choristers sing regularly at the Sunday 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist, as well as for other services and special events throughout the year, under the direction of the Director of Music. The choristers also take part in music workshops designed to encourage the development of musical skills and ensemble performance. There is also a summer program for the choristers offered for one week during the month of July. The Trinity Choristers rehearse Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Thursday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Auditions are held several times during the year, and new members are warmly welcomed into this exciting and richly rewarding ministry. |
